As a result of the Court of Appeals landmark decision in DeWolfe v. Richmond, granting arrested individuals a state constitutional right to counsel at the initial hearings before District Court Commissioners, District Court Chief Judge John P. Morrissey seeks attorneys to represent these defendants.
All Attorneys, young and old, experienced and not so experienced are needed. The Court of Appeals has opted for July 1, 2014 as the start date. So time is of the essence.
The Judiciary’s “Appointed Attorneys Program” is available to all attorneys, licensed to practice in Maryland and in good standing with the Court of Appeals. There are certain training requirements that need to be met and, in some instances, may be done on-line.

Appointed attorneys will be compensated at the rate of $50 per hour or they may volunteer. There will be additional compensation for mileage and tolls.
