On April 26, 2014, more than 30 volunteers converged on the Community college of Baltimore’s Randallstown campus to conduct the Baltimore County Bar Association’s semi-annual Pro Bono Day. The event involved volunteers from the CCBC Legal Studies Program, Legal Aid, Maryland Volunteer Lawyer Service and the Maryland Disability Law Center. Numerous BCBA members also participated.
The clinic delivered free legal consultation to 55 grateful people. The volunteers offered consultation in the areas of bankruptcy, consumer debt, landlord/tenant, government and veterans benefits, expungements, wills and advance directives and family law. Many attendees described the experience as “life-changing.” It is easy to underestimate the impact of providing pro bono services to people with legal problems who are unable to afford an attorney.
