In Chambers With Master James Farmer

I met with Master James Farmer at his law office at 606 Baltimore Avenue, just a couple blocks from the Courthouse.  Master Farmer still practices law part-time when he is not sitting on the bench, hearing domestic relations cases.  Upon becoming a part-time Domestic Relations Master in 2007, he was able to continue his private law practice although it is now limited to non-domestic related legal matters.

Master Farmer was born and raised in West Baltimore City, graduating from Edmondson High School.  He received his undergraduate degree in Business Management and then spent three and a half years serving in the Maryland National Guard and three years in the Air Force National Guard.  Master Farmer became interested in law while working as a Claims Representative for Royal Globe Insurance and enrolled at the University of Baltimore School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1973.

Master Farmer and his wife, Donna, who is the Judicial Assistant for The Honorable Paul Hanley, reside in Timonium, Maryland with their two daughters: Samantha, a senior at York College, and Danielle, a sophomore at Towson University, along with two cocker spaniels, Riley and Shellie. Riley and Shellie are brother and sister, although they were not born in the same litter.  Master Farmer has a wood shop at his home where he spends a lot of time and “has every tool you can think of.”  He enjoys the outdoors and goes fishing a couple times each year.  Master Farmer also likes to golf on occasion.  He enjoys going to Ocean City, Maryland.

Master Farmer and I spent a good deal of time talking about local sports teams.  Master Farmer follows the Ravens, Orioles and Terps (especially the Men’s Lacrosse Team).  In fact, his son played lacrosse for the Terps in college.  Master Farmer also follows the local college and high school sports teams, particularly the lacrosse programs and will attend college and high school lacrosse games throughout the season.  He enjoys attending his four granddaughters’ sporting events and following their teams during the soccer, basketball, and lacrosse seasons.
