Meet my father, Paul L. Schubert. Throughout my bar year many of you have heard me speak and write fondly of my dad... my friend, my mentor, my hero. It was Paul Schubert that instilled integrity, determination, independence, love of God, country and family, in me. The way he lived his life set the standard that I strive to achieve daily. I know he has smiled proudly during my bar year as I have tried to encourage others to live life to the fullest, treat others with kindness and respect and give something back to the world around you.
It has been a privilege and honor to serve as your President. We have had a successful year with great educational programs, social events, and we have met the challenge of sponsoring a charity throughout the entire year. Lawyers in our association stepped up to the plate and volunteered their time, shopped for needed items and donated money to benefit The Family Crisis Center. I thank each and every one of you for fulfilling our goal this year and I encourage all of you to continue to give something back to your community.
This coming bar year I will be serving as head of the Baltimore County Bar Foundation. We have been busy this year with charitable projects in Maryland, and we recently donated money to the New Orleans Bar Association. The NOBA has been a resource this year in helping lawyers and the bench recover - they established the Internet Café for displaced lawyers, secured money for free CLE scholarships, gave away laptops and software to lawyers, and literally opened up their offices for the courts to conduct business. Our Bar Foundation will continue to assist programs that benefit the legal profession and the community. Please remember to help fund the Bar Foundation when you receive your next dues notice.
I want to thank the members of the Executive Council for their assistance in making this year productive and successful. I have been fortunate to have such an esteemed group to rely upon for advice and direction. Doris Barnes has been unbelievable and un-tiring in her efforts to make my job run smoothly. Thanks to Carole Otte for her help in the bar office as well. This year has been a group effort and our Bar Association continues to be well respected and successful. I leave knowing this will continue with our new leader, Alan Bussard!
Finally, I conclude my last article with the words first written a year ago.....Thanks Dad.
