Happy holidays to all! I hope to see everyone at the Holiday Party on December 7th, 6PM-9PM, at the Valley Country Club! We will have plenty of parking, great food, great entertainment with a DJ, and of course all of your friends from the Bar Association will be there. I've been working with owner Debbie Donovan planning the party and it will certainly be a huge success!
I can’t wait to reminisce in Artie Donovan's bar area which highlights the "heyday" of the great Baltimore Colts. Many years ago, I remember my father, a member of the "Colt Corral," taking me to see the imfamous Johnny Unitas at Memorial Stadium. Paul Schubert was a huge football fan and a highly respected coach who started the Optimist football program in Randallstown in the early 1960's. Many of you guys may have played in that program, which ultimately won the Pop Warner National Championship in 1970! Not surprisingly, I could throw a football better than most guys, as somehow I received a "pigskin" under the Christmas tree rather than a Barbie Doll®. Although we later moved back to Texas and Roger Staubach became my hero, I'll never forget the days of football in Randallstown, the Baltimore Colts and Johnny "U"!
This time of year can bring sadness to those of us who have lost someone special, but I think it is an especially appropriate time to "give something back." I know from personal experience that by doing for others my own sense of loss is not so great, and I know that special someone is smiling above. Be thankful you are here with your families and remember our brave troops who will not be home for the holidays. Don't forget "our" charity which needs canned goods, new or gently used toys or good 'ol cash. The Bar office is ready to receive and any donation is appreciated.
In keeping with the holiday spirit let us all be more civil in our practice, more generous and giving to those less fortunate, kinder and more appreciative of our family and friends, and we will make this a holiday season to remember!
