President's Message : John W. Nowicki: October 2003

A legend in Baltimore County, Judge A. Gordon Boone, is retired. He will be honored at a dinner on October 2, 2003 from 6:30 to 9:30 at the Hunt Valley Marriott Inn. All who desire to attend should contact The Baltimore County Bar Association office for tickets.

I don’t believe that there is a lawyer or citizen of this State who has appeared before Judge Boone who would not state unequivocally that justice was served and entertainment provided when he or she appeared before him. Whether a defendant, victim, witness, prosecutor, plaintiff’s attorney, defendant’s attorney or observer, Judge Boone in rendering his opinions left all within ear shot with the feeling that a fair opportunity was provided and a fair decision reached. His ability to listen, with patience, and to dissect all statements and arguments in his courtroom with such an intellectual, humorous and judicial manner made it impossible for anyone to quibble with the judicial result, whether favorable or not.

Judge Boone’s accomplishments and contributions to the community include appointment as an Associate District Court Judge since April, 21, 1982; Assistant State’s Attorney, Baltimore County, 1963-68, Assistant Public Defender, Baltimore County, 1972-74, Assistant State’s Attorney, Baltimore City, 1975-82. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, August 21, 1933. Attended Georgetown Preparatory School, Washington, DC; University of Maryland; University of Baltimore School of Law, LLB, 1963. Served in U.S. Air Force, 1953-56, Member, Baltimore County Bar Association; Dissenters Law Club, Member, Democratic State Central Committee, Baltimore County, 1964-72, 1978-82. Member, B.P.O.E.; Advisory Board, St. Joseph Hospital; Navy League; National Rifle Association.

Hopefully the powers that be will see fit to allow Judge Boone the opportunity to come back and sit as a Judge in this State as often as possible. The mandated retirement should not keep this gentleman from continuing to serve the citizens of our State.
