Executive Council Update
First things first. Many thanks to all who attended our Eighty-First Annual Bar Banquet. The large number of elected officials and judges from throughout Maryland is convincing proof that the Baltimore County Bar Association really knows how to celebrate our profession. We especially thank the Honorable A. Gordon Boone, Jr., who was able to do what many of his predecessors have not. Judge Boone held the attention of the 700 members and guests present and yes, you could hear a pin drop. Our Banquet continues to be a testament to the unique ability of lawyers to rise above the adversarial disputes of the day and be convivial colleagues at night.
The Council also joins me in thanking our Executive Director, Heather Martin, and Carole Otte for their hard work in making this year’s event a true success.
At the February 11 Council meeting, we accomplished the following:
1. Planned the details of the BCBA-sponsored Legislative Reception in Annapolis on March 3 in Room 302 of the State House;
2. Unanimously voted to approve the Law Day Committee’s nomination of Chief Judge John F. Fader II, as the recipient of the 2003 Law Day Award;
3. Approved a substantial price reduction for BCBA members who pre-register for this year’s Law Day Breakfast;
4. Appointed a Task Force to recommend revisions to the Council’s budget approval process;
5. Received a report from the Professionalism Committee relating to its May 12 Program featuring the Honorable Lynne Battaglia; and
6. Determined to defer until the Fall 2003, the public forum on contested judicial elections.
If you would like to work on a BCBA project or committee, please contact any member of the Council or Heather at the Association’s headquarters.
