For whatever reason unlike April with its soft showers or cruelty, depending on the poet of your choice, May is almost universally celebrated for its merriment, congeniality and color. Except for a few overwrought commencement speakers it is almost universally considered to be a “light” month with the keen anticipation of summer relaxation, golf outings, etc. In that spirit we at the Bar wish you all smooth sailing into the warm summer months.
Last month at the Executive Council Meeting Jack Condliffe and Jim Nolan gave an excellent presentation on their new Pro Bono initiative involving members of the Baltimore County bar. You will be hearing more about it in upcoming months, but they hope to make it easier for members to participate in Pro Bono activities. As you know, we all have a responsibility to provide some Pro Bono service with a goal of 50 hours per year. We
hope to make it easy for you to meet this responsibility and goal. Baltimore County is improving in Pro Bono service, but we still lag behind other jurisdictions and can do better.
Phil Tirabassi and his Law Day Committee deserve some real thanks for their hard work with the breakfast and Law Day award ceremony. Judge Byrnes is a very worthy recipient of the Law Day recognition. Of course, he is a Past President of the Association, but even more important, he also has been a strong advocate for all things Baltimore County, even if his golf game occasionally takes him abroad. He is an outstanding member of the bench, and we truly appreciate his years of service to the bench and bar. Please give him a smile and a thank you for all of his service when next you see him strolling about Towson. After all, it’s Spring!
